2020-01 Jan Family History Goals

Jan 8, 2020 family history goals

Hello from your Ward Temple & Family History Consultants:

WHAT?

WHY?

WHEN?

HOW?

  1. Start with desire. Decide you want to do something for Temple & Family History in 2020.

  2. Consider options. Perhaps pick from 2019 ward email messages or any other sources as food for thought for potential Temple & Family History goals.

  3. Perhaps plan 4 smaller goals for family history in 2020 (1 goal for 3 months each). Or pick one goal. Your goals, your choice.

  4. Think progress, not status. Be nice to yourself. By small and simple things, great things are brought to pass. Think Yay! rather than Oh nooo! Count time spent serving others in T&FH (indexing, etc.) if you hit a blocker on your own lines. If your efforts aid progress for God’s human family, it counts.

  5. Look for which ancestors have little to no memories posted to familysearch.org. Is anyone still alive that might have some memories?

  6. Where will you put your goals to remind yourself monthly? Write them down and review your goals monthly on fast Sundays. Make a habit that supports you.

  7. Start a Temple & Family History journal and write what you learn in 2020 and write what you’re struggling with. Then pull out these notes when you find time to meet with the ward Temple & Family History consultants.

  8. Ask ministering families what they plan for Temple & Family History this quarter. Remind them we have 9 Temple & Family History consultants in our ward.

  9. Is there anyone in your extended family that is not yet a member that you might have a positive experience with this year by sharing genealogy information, efforts, or just paying attention to them through genealogy efforts?

  10. Celebrate small steps that you can control. Don’t worry about things beyond your control. Include your Temple & Family History efforts in your prayers.
