family history
Hello from your Ward Temple & Family History Consultants:
WHY?
- Seeing pictures of family (here and gone) is fun
- Perhaps the pandemic gave you a little more time than pre-pandemic (if your commute dried up). Consider tithing some of that time to Temple & Family History work. We’re always happier after serving others.
- You can do this from home if you have a phone or computer and internet service.
WHAT?
- Members of the church have access to Ancestry.com, and Ancestry has a nice feature that finds high school and university year book photos of your family members.
WHO?
- Perhaps you needed a photo.
- Perhaps you just want to get a snicker at how they looked at that age.
HOW?
- Go to the FamilySearch page for the family member.
- On the right side of the page under the
Search Records
section selectAncestry
. - Another browser window opens with the Ancestry search for that person (you may have to log in).
- On the left side of the Ancestry search page, look for the second box down labeled
Filter by
. - Under
All Categories
, selectDirectories & Member Lists
. - Look at the results for a heading
U.S., School Yearbooks, 1900-1999
. - My Dad’s image is a page from the yearbook. The top of the image page shows the state, the city, the High School name, and the year. His was 1955.
- Look for a little green box around their name. That may be their photo. If it is, the source information is listed on the right of the Ancestry image page.
- Laugh it up with your family members.
- If that person has passed on, consider adding that image to their “Memories” section in FamilySearch and you your tree in Ancestry.com. That way other people can find it too.
